Enjoying the city for free

1. Magic Fountain of Montjuic


Enjoy the magical atmosphere at night with a spectacular colourful water-show. The fountain designed by Carles Buïgas is situated below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuïc mountain and near the Plaça d'Espanya and Poble Espanyol. Be sure to check the schedule when planning your visit, as it generally only runs on Friday and Saturday nights. 



2. Pedralbes Monastery


The Monastery of Pedralbes was founded by Queen Elisenda de Montcada in 1327 with the support of her husband, King James II. The building is one of the best examples of Catalan Gothic architecture, both for the church and for the three-storey cloister, one of the largest and most harmonious in this style. The Monastery opens its doors free every 1st Sunday of the month.




3. Museu Blau – Natural Science Museum


Travel through the history of Earth and Life, walk through all the Mediterranean world, connect with scientific and social news in the field of natural sciences, contemplate works of art inspired by the natural world. Free entrance every Sunday from 15.00pm.






4. Music Museum


More than 2.400 music instruments and  400 art objects that allow carefully study their different scientific aspects. A quarter of the fund is in the permanent exhibition and the rest is kept in accessible reserves. They also Conserve a set of 13.000 sound records in different media: wax cylinders, piano rolls, perforated tapes, magnetic tapes... showing of the fixation of sound in the last three hundred years. You can enjoy the Music museum for free every Sunday after 15.00 pm. 
















5. Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona


The Centre de Cultura Contemporània (CCCB) is one of the most popular cultural and exhibition centers in Barcelona. Arts, Science, Humanities, Technology, the Contemporary Cultural center of Barcelona offers lot of temporary and permanent exhibitions and activities. The entrance is free every Sunday from 15.00. 


6. Museu Nacional Art Contemporani


If you want to get a closer look to the Catalan art you must visit this museum also knows as the Palau Nacional. The Art Museum of Barcelona holds important Romanesque paintings until mid XX century paintings and art. The museum´s entrance is free every Saturday starting at 15h and on every 1st Sunday of the month. 




7. Picasso Museum

This museum houses one of the most extensive collections of artworks from the 20th-century. The most famous Picasso Museum is in Barcelona. You can visit Picasso Museum for free after 15.00. 
Extra Tip: There is usually a looooong queue for entering Picasso Museum for free on Sundays. Therefore, I do recommend going early.



8. Parc del Laberint dHorta

Ever wanted to lose yourself in a real-life labyrinth? Well so did the Marquis Joan Antoni Desvalls of d’Ardena, who ordered the construction of this 820-yard long labyrinth located on the outskirts of Barcelona back in the 18th century. Only 750 visitors are allowed in daily and access costs just over €2 per person. On sundays the entrance is free.
