Welcome To Barcelona!

Barcelona is a city that welcomes everyone with open arms. If this is your Erasmus destination, you will not regret it.This city has everything to offer, from sand beaches to incredibly beautiful architecture.
So where should you start from?

Getting a decent place (i mean decent because you will probably get offered shity rooms for super expensive prices) , room or flat. This is the key to make the most out of your Erasmus experience and without the right information, it can be very difficult. I will share with you many tips i've learned from my personal experience. So where to begin with?

There are plenty options to search for rooms in shared flats. I would recomend to join a Facebook page called Erasmus Barcelona Accommodation. This page has been very helpful to me when it came to finding roommates. There are some other web pages like Spotahome or idealista. I have personally looked for places here before i moved to my friends place.

In my opinion, if you are coming for a semester or two, the best option is to get a room in a shared flat in a well located area. The districts i would recommend are Ciutat Vella, Eixample, Les Corts, and Gracia.

Ciutat Vella (Old City) is comprised of four different neighbourhoods (Barri Gotic, El Raval, Barceloneta, El Born). It is one of the most beautiful and charming areas of the city.

Eixample is located beyond Plaça Catalunya and is divided in two parts, Eixample Dreta and Eixample Esquerra.

Eixample Esquerra and Les Corts neighbourhoods are very close to the University Area (Zona Universitaria). This is where the majority of students live, since many universities are based there, for instance Universidad de Barcelona’, ‘Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña’ or ESADE.

Les Corts is also the financial neighborhood of the city, where many international companies, businesses and hotels are located. Nightlife in this area is quiet since the majority students tend to head towards Eixample or Ciutat Vella to party and socialise. In this area there is also the Barcelona FC’s stadium Camp Nou.

Gracia is the new hip upcoming neighborhood which used to be a town until 1897, when it got incorporated to the city. It still maintains its bohemian style, with large squares where bars set up their terraces, local markets and independent stores. It has the famous Parc Guell from Gaudí.

I would personally recommend Ciutat Vella. In this district you will live the real city´s essence. Its the oldest and most beautiful area of the city. You have bars, restaurants, nightclubs, shops, supermarkets, hair-salons, everything you could possibly imagine. It is well connected to the rest of the city and to the beach by metro or bus. I live in El Born and I wouldn't move out of this lovely neighbourhood ever.
